The Aldeburgh Festival of Music and the Arts was founded in 1948 by Benjamin Britten, Peter Pears and the writer and producer Eric Crozier. Now in it’s 62nd year, artists include names both familiar to Aldeburgh and introduces new ones, with music from an extraordinary breadth of influences and ages.

Latitude Festival (mid July) – 12 miles

Suffolk’s own beautiful family-friendly festival featuring the very best from the worlds of music, film, comedy, theatre, cabaret, dance, poetry, literature and art. Over 700 performers (including big name headline acts) plus workshops – a fun-filled cultural adventure by the sea.

Folk East Festival (August) – 5 miles

This beautiful festival is a feast to the eyes, ears and tastebuds. Three days of eclectic music (not just folk) and entertainment, fantastic local food and a wonderfully chilled out vibe.

Theatre in the Forest (August) – 23 miles

An annual production of Shakespeare by the unique innovative Red Rose Chain. A beautiful setting in the forest, with local food & ales on sale, and a picnic option.

Maui Waui Festival (September) – 7 miles

This full-on party festie is right on our doorstep, and features music from many genres including electro swing & reggae. Lots of other entertainment & events to get involved with all in one colourful & exciting little site.

Harvest at Jimmy’s (mid September) – 23 miles

A family friendly two-day celebration of the best of British food, also including an impressive line-up of music. 2009 was the first year for this festival, but it looks set to continue.

Aldeburgh Food & Drink Festival (end of September) – 7 miles

A ten day celebration of the abundance of good local food and drink to be found in East Suffolk. The Festival takes place in the beautiful surroundings of Snape Maltings, near Aldeburgh on the Suffolk Coast.

The traditional village fete is alive and well in Suffolk! On Saturdays throughout the Spring & Summer you’ll find a choice of fetes to visit within easy reach. Sweffling’s own summer fete (& evening field dance) is held in mid August.
